CDPH Statement on CDC and FDA Preliminary Safety Signal

SACRAMENTO – Today, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued the following statement on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) joint statement identifying a preliminary COVID-19 vaccine safety signal for persons aged 65 years and older. 

The Department of Public Health concurs with the recommendations in the federal statement that the updated bivalent vaccines are safe and effective against COVID-19. No change in vaccination practice is recommended given the totality of the evidence from the United States and other countries.  
  
California continues to support its vaccine recommendations and encourage Californians to stay up-to-date with their vaccines. Vaccines continue to be safe and effective, and they remain the most powerful weapon against hospitalization and serious illness due to COVID-19. Widespread vaccination is a major reason California is in a position to wind down emergency processes.
