Obtaining Certified Copies of Death Certificates
The California Department of Public Health – Vital Records (CDPH-VR) maintains a permanent, public record of every death that has occurred in California since July 1905.

Copies may be obtained in person at the county office where the death was registered. Please view our
County Registrar and Recorder directory to request a copy of a death record from the county office.
