The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division advances the health and well‑being of California families by monitoring key indicators that support breastfeeding success. In alignment with California's Title V priorities and Healthy People 2030 goals, MCAH tracks statewide data on breastfeeding initiation, duration, exclusivity, and supportive environments across hospitals, and workplaces. These data help inform programs and policies that promote equitable access to breastfeeding support for all Californians.
California in-hospital infant feeding practices are monitored using data collected by the Newborn Screening (NBS) Program. Any and exclusive in-hospital breastfeeding rates are available by hospital, county and the State.

The Maternal and Infant Health Assessment (MIHA), an annual, statewide-representative survey of California residents with a recent live birth, collects self-reported information about maternal and infant experiences before, during and shortly after pregnancy.
