Abused Substances Analysis SECTION (ASAS)

ā€‹ā€‹Programs

Forensic Alcohol Laboratory Program regulates laboratories determining blood alcohol levels for the enforcement of drunk driving laws and reviews breath alcohol testing procedures used by law enforcement in the State in order to ensure the competence of this testing.

Methadone Drug Analysis Laboratory Program licenses and regulates laboratories providing urine drug screening services to the narcotic treatment programs in the State in order to ensure the competency of these laboratories.

Forensic Alcohol Review Committeeā€‹

Background - Health and Safety Code Section 100703 requires the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to establish a review committee that will evaluate current CDPH regulations pertaining to forensic and breath alcohol analysis and consider revisions to these regulations necessary to ensure the competence of the forensic alcohol laboratories and employees. After its initial meeting, the Committee will meet at least once every three years, or within 60 days of receipt of a request by the Department or  a member of the Committee. Information concerning the meeting (i.e., notices, agendas, minutes, etc.) that is provided to members of the committee will be also be posted.
