The Environmental Health Laboratory Branch (EHLB) provides technical expertise on air quality and biochemistry measurements to identify emerging environmental exposures and promote the health of all Californians. It has a multidisciplinary staff of 30 experts in chemistry, toxicology, aerosol science, ventilation, engineering, and  epidemiology. 

EHLB works with its State, local, and Federal partners to provide​:

• Community biomonitoring, air measurements, and mitigations​
  
• Identification of emerging product toxics including lead and vaping
• Emergency preparedness including wildfire smoke
• Indoor air quality guidelines & airborne pathogen risk reduction strategies
• New lab method development
• Analytical lab testing & sample tracking
• Exposure assessment study design & analysis
• Technical consultations for environmental health guidance ​
