Accounting & Budgets

Accounting classifications perform professional accounting duties such as reviewing and analyzing all types of accounts and records of financial transactions; and maintaining accounting records and handling accounts receivables and accounts owed for the Department.

Budget classifications work to ensure the Departmentā€™s expenditures stay within the funds allotted by the annual Governorā€™s Budget.  Duties in the budget office can include: reviewing, analyzing, evaluating and processing budget change proposals; make recommendations on budget matters to higher level department management; reconcile appropriation by source of funding and review purchase estimates, printing requisitions, personnel transactions documents and contracts.

Associate Budget Analyst

The Associate Budget Analyst performs a variety of responsible and complex technical budget tasks such as preparing baseline budgets, evaluating and processing budget change proposals, processing transfer of budget allotments and may review purchase estimates.  The Associate Budget Analyst may coordinate and assist in the development, preparation, administration, maintenance, review and control of a departmentā€™s budget by providing consultative budget service to the department management and does other budget related work.

Step 1: Create or Login to Your CalCareer Account

Step 2: Take Examination/Assessment

Before you can work for the State, you need to take and pass an examination for the job type (classification) that you wish to be considered for employment. The assessment process can take many forms (i.e. self-assessments or written exams) and maybe required to be completed in-person or online. Examination Bulletins list the minimum qualifications and the steps required to apply and/or complete the examination/assessment. If you have current or past state experience, you may have Transfer Eligibility or Reinstatement Rights.

Once you have taken the examination or established eligibility for the job type that you wish to be considered for employment, you may be considered for open positions in that job type by applying for job vacancies. Login to your CalCareer account, locate the job posting you wish to apply for and click on ā€œApply for This Jobā€ and follow the prompts.
