There are medications you can take at home that are safe and effective for treating COVID-19, and they are free and widely available. If you get COVID-19, these medications can stop the illness from getting serious, can help you to test negative sooner, and may reduce the risk of long COVID symptoms. Treatments must be taken within 5ā7 days of when symptoms begin to work, so act fast if you start to feel symptoms.
As soon as you feel sick, get a COVID-19 test and talk to your health care provider, visit California For All, or call the statewide COVID-19 hotline at 833-422-4255 to find treatment.

News Release: California's Top Public Health Doctor: COVID-19 Treatments are Free and Widely Available, but Underutilized.
COVID-19 medications are effective for stopping COVID-19 illness from getting serious. By stopping the virus from multiplying in your body, they can prevent severe COVID-19 complications including hospitalization and death, may lead you to test negative sooner, and may lower the risk of long COVID. While vaccines and boosters remain the frontline of defense against COVID-19, all Californians 12 years and older who test positive for COVID-19 and have symptoms should seek evaluation for COVID-19 treatments, which are widely available and free statewide, regardless of insurance or citizenship status. They must be taken within 5-7 days of when symptoms begin, so if you feel sick, act fast to get a COVID-19 test and seek treatment if you test positive.
