Request a Copy of a Vital Record Online

The California Department of Public Health – Vital Records (CDPH-VR) does not accept online orders. However, there are independent, third-party companies that process online requests for certified copies of vital records.  When using online services provided by an independent company, they may charge a processing fee on all orders.  That fee is in addition to the certified copy fee.

What records are available?

  • Birth Certificates
  • Death Certificates (including Fetal Death and Still Birth Records)
  • Marriage Certificates

How do I request a record online?

Visit one of the following websites to submit your request online:

You must complete the online authentication according to the instructions on the website to receive an Authorized Certified Copy of your record.

If you are not an authorized person or do not wish to complete the authentication, you may receive an Informational Certified Copy of your record. Informational Certified Copies are printed with a legend on the face of the document that states, "INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY."

For more information on Authorized vs. Informational Copies, visit the Vital Records webpage Authorized Copy vs. Informational Copy.
