Obtaining Heirloom Birth Records
āāThe California Department of Public Health āā Vital Records (CDPH-VR) maintains a permanent, public record of every birth that has occurred in California since July 1905.ā Heirloom birth records are purely for genealogical or keepsake purposes and are not considered legally valid to establish identity. California Heirloom Birth Certificates are printed on 11" x 14" border engraved paper with a gold seal.

Requestāāing a Copy
Fees
Heirloom Birth Records are $44 per copy.
Requests received without the appropriate fee will be returned to the sender. Make your check or money order payable to CDPH Vital Records. Checks must be drawn on a United States bank. Money orders must be drawn on a United States bank or issued by the United States Postal Service.
Please do not send cash by mail. CDPH cannot be help reposible for fees paid that are lost, misdirected, or undelivered.
Processing Times
The processing time begins when CDPH-VR receives your request. CDPH-VR's current processing time is 10 to 12 weeks.
