SUBJECT:
Assembly Bill (AB) 2145: Dental Services: Long-Term Care

ā€‹AUTHORITY:      Health and Safety Code (HSC) section 1315

ā€‹All Facilities Letter (AFL) Summary

This AFL notifies long-term care facilities of the chaptering of AB 2145 (Chapter 157, Statutes 2022), authorizing registered dental hygienists in alternative practice to provide dental hygiene services and training.

ā€‹Effective January 1, 2023, AB 2145 authorizes registered dental hygienists in alternative practice to provide dental hygiene services to patients in SNFs, ICFs, ICF/DDs, ICF/DD-Hs, ICF/DD-Ns, ICF/DD-CNs, CLHF, and PDHRCs.

In addition, the bill authorizes registered dental hygienists in alternative practice to provide oral health in-service training to long-term care facility staff.

CDPH's failure to expressly notify facilities of statutory or regulatory requirements does not relieve facilities of their responsibility for following all laws and regulations. Facilities should refer to the full text of all applicable sections of the HSC and the California Code of Regulations to ensure compliance.

If you have any questions about this AFL, please contact your local district office.

Sincerely,
