2024 Voter Education Toolkit

ā€‹The Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Division developed this voter education toolkit to promote civic education among Californianā€™s and increase awareness about the voting process. The toolkit includes important information about the voting process, social media, and relevant links and resources.

We know that communities with higher voter turnout have better health outcomes. Voting directly impacts the health of your community by shaping policies that affect jobs, housing, education, and your environment. We hope the resources below can support you with feeling confident about how to vote in the upcoming General Election on November 5, 202ā€‹4.ā€‹ā€‹

Step 1Register to vote.

Register to vote at vā€‹ote.ca.gov by October 21, 2024.

You can register to vote if you are:

  • a United States citizen
  • a resident of California
  • at least 18 years or older on Election Day
  • not prohibited to vote by a court or court ruling

You should re-register to vote if you:

  • have moved residences
  • have changed your name
  • want to change political parties


Check your voter registration status on vote.ca.gov if you have not voted in recent elections.

If you miss the voter registration deadline or you are registering to vote less than 15 days before an election, you can complete Same Day Voter Registration and request your ballot in person at your county elections office or polling location.

There are three ways to vote in the 2024 General Election:

Vote by mail

Every active, registered voter in California will be mailed a ballot for the November 5, 2024, General Election. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before November 5, 2024. 

Vote-by-mail is safe, secure, and easy.

Vote early

Drop off a mail-in ballot before Election Day. Return in the mail or go to a drop-off location.

Visit caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov for a list of early voting locations.  

Vote on Election Day (Nov. 5)

Polls are open on Election Day: November 5, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Find your polling place at sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place.

You may also contact your County Elections Offices or the Secretary of Stateā€™s toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683) for more information about how to vote and to receive election materials in your language, or if youā€™ve been denied your right to vote. Learn more about your voter rights at vote.ca.gov.

Call your County Elections Office to get a new ballot OR vote in-person using a provisional ballot.

Forget to mail in your ballot?

Drop it off at a polling place near you by Election Day sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place

Sign up at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.ā€‹gov to receive notifications when your ballot is mailed, received, and counted. The California Secretary of Stateā€™s office is working around the clock to protect our elections, so every vote is counted and only counted once.
