Consistent with the priorities of the Branch, California Breathing focuses on disease surveillance and developing interventions that improve environmental conditions that cause or exacerbate asthma in the most vulnerable populations.

What’s New?

  • California Asthma Dashboard – California Breathing launched a new and improved online interactive data tool, the California Asthma Dashboard. The tool has been redesigned to improve navigation and simplify downloading charts and data sets. The California Asthma Dashboard displays state- and county-level data on: asthma prevalence; asthma emergency department visits, hospitalizations, insurers; and asthma deaths.
  • Asthma Management Academy Infographic (PDF) – California Breathing is pleased to release an infographic that highlights the successes of the Asthma Management Academy (AsMA), an evidence-based training for community health workers (CHWs) and other health educators to learn how to deliver asthma education for individuals and families with asthma.

  • California Asthma Control Strategies Webinar Series  During the Fall of 2021, California Breathing hosted a three-part webinar series about asthma control strategies in California. The first webinar described the burden of asthma in California. The second webinar shared evaluation results of the first four years of the Asthma Management Academy, an asthma education program for community health workers. The third webinar shared assessment results of asthma control strategies from California clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
