The Burden of Chronic Disease, Injury, and Environmental Exposure, California, Second Edition, 2020

The California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) The Burden of Chronic Disease, Injury, and Environmental Exposure, California, Second Edition (PDF) report (Burden Report) provides a snapshot of the burden of chronic conditions, injuries, and environmental exposures in California and showcases successes in moving towards healthy communities. The second edition of the Burden Report is an expansion of the content covered in the 2013 report. Fifteen chronic conditions and the impact that environmental and occupation exposure on health were included, in addition to emerging issues such as the opioid epidemic and the legalization of recreational use of cannabis by adults.

This information is especially important as we aim to educate communities on how chronic disease, injury and environmental exposure make people more susceptible to adverse outcomes from COVID-19.

The Burden of Diabetes in California, 2019 Report

The Burden of Diabetes in California, June 2019 (PDF) report illustrates how poverty, limited education, smoking and obesity are associated with higher prevalence of diabetes. As CDPH and our partners work to combat chronic disease by addressing determinants of health, the information in the report can be utilized to further our collaborative efforts to reduce the preventable disability and premature death from diabetes in California.
