CA PDSTAT Background
CA PDSTAT network was launched in September 2015 in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) during a strategic planning meeting in Los Angeles, CA. The purpose of the meeting was to assist CDPH and partners with developing the Diabetes Prevention Through Lifestyle Change Programs 2018 Action Plan (PDF) to scale and sustain the National DPP in California. The action plan has a focus on vulnerable populations where the burden of diabetes is seen to be the greatest. The action plan is organized into four focused areas of action, or “pillars:” Availability, Community Engagement: Awareness, Coverage, and Provider Engagement: Screen, Test, and Refer.
Goals of the CA PDSTAT Four Pillars
|Increase availability and support of National DPPs in California, with an emphasis on the communities with the greatest needs.||Increase awareness of prediabetes among Californians, especially those at risk for type 2 diabetes||Encourage employers and insurers to offer National DPPs as a covered benefit||Increase referral of individuals with prediabetes or at risk of type 2 diabetes to National DPPs|
