Healthcare Professional Certification and Training Section 

The Healthcare Professional Certification and Training Section (HPCTS) is responsible for the oversight of certification and competency evaluation of all Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA), Home Health Aides (HHA), and Hemodialysis Technicians (CHT). It is comprised of three teams -- Registry Unit, Training Program Review Unit, and eLearning Review Unit (ELRU). 

Registry Unit

The Registry Unit is responsible for the certification of CNAs, HHAs, and CHTs, and maintains the Registry for these categories of health care workers.

Training Program Review Unit

The Training Program Review Unit (TPRU) is responsible for the review, approval/disapproval and continual oversight of CNAs, HHAs, and CHT Training, Orientation and In-service Training programs. TPRU is also responsible for the review, approval/disapproval, and continual oversight of Continuing Education Providers for CNAs and HHAs.

eLearning Review Unit

The eLearning Review Unit reviews applications of skilled nursing facilities (SNF), intermediate care facilities (ICF), and educational institutions, which are interested in conducting a nurse assistant training program (NATP) in an online or distant learning format and maintains regulatory oversight of approved online programs.

The Staffing Audits Section (SAS)

As mandated by the provisions of California Health and Safety Code sections 1276.66, 1276.65 and 1276.5, the Staffing Audit Section conducts compliance reviews of free-standing skilled nursing facilities for compliance with mandated staffing standards.

For information regarding the 3.5 direct care service hours per patient day (DHPPD) staffing requirements, of which a minimum of 2.4 DHPPD shall be performed by CNA staffing audits, please contact the Staffing Audits Section.ā€‹
