Students & Seasonal Work

Student and seasonal positions with the California Department of Public Health offer an excellent introduction to state service and public health programs. These roles allow individuals to gain practical experience supporting projects, administrative functions, and community health initiatives while developing professional skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Participants build familiarity with state operations and workplace expectations, creating a strong foundation for future permanent positions within CDPH or other California state departments.

​​How To Apply

Step 1: Create or Login to Your CalCareer Account

With a CalCareer account, you can take state civil service examinations, store different versions of your application, apply for vacancies, track your application status and save your resume all in one place.

Step 2: Take Examination/Assessment

Seasonal Workers, Student Assistants, and Youth Aids are non-testing classifications.  You are not required  to take and pass an examination for these job positions (classifications) as you are for most state jobs.   Student Assistants will need to submit proof of current college enrollment with their application.  Please review Job Controls carefully to ensure you submit all the required documentation. 

​Step 3: Search and Apply for Jobs
