Students & Seasonal Work

These classifications and job opportunities are for temporary or part-time work to be performed. Students will gain real-world, on-the-job experience in their field of study. Current enrollment in college is required for any student or graduate student positions.

 

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) offers paid and unpaid internships for undergraduate and graduate students. Internships provide opportunities to work in a variety of different public health disciplines such as health education, epidemiology, health statistics, laboratory sciences, public policy, healthcare administration, human resources, information technology, and communications.

The Student Assistant performs multiple clerical office duties including but not limited to typing, transcription, records management and document preparation and review.  Employees in this series may be required to have particular knowledge and/or proficiency in special areas specific to the Department Programs.

With a CalCareer account, you can take state civil service examinations, store different versions of your application, apply for vacancies, track your application status and save your resume all in one place.

Step 2: Take Examination/Assessment

Seasonal Workers, Student Assistants, and Youth Aids are non-testing classifications.  You are not required  to take and pass an examination for these job positions (classifications) as you are for most state jobs.   Student Assistants will need to submit proof of current college enrollment with their application.  Please review Job Controls carefully to ensure you submit all the required documentation. 

ā€‹Step 3: Search and Apply for Jobs

Login to your CalCareer account, locate the job posting you wish to apply for and click on ā€œApply for This Jobā€.  Select "I have eligibility".  For the positions posted on this page, you have eligiblity on the basis that these positions are Non-Testing Classifications.  Continue completing your application by following the prompts.
