Amending a California Marriage Record

The California Department of Public Health – Vital Records (CDPH-VR) receives all amendment requests by a mail in application.​

Note: Confidential marriage records must be amended through the county clerk in the county where the license was issued. Contact information for county clerks may be found in the County R​egistrars and Recorders​ directory page.

Amend a Marriage Record to Correct General and Gender Errors​

• Correct most typographical or spelling errors
• Add information to most blank fields
• Reflect a court order name change on either spouse
• Change designation to reflect gender identity
  

The processing time begins when CDPH-VR receives your request.
