CalGenetic Portal Training Videos

Prenatal care providers and their staff have access to four videos below that provide step-by-step instructions for using the CalGenetic Portal to create a profile and view prenatal screening results for the California Prenatal Screening (PNS) Program. The videos explain how to do the following:

Providers can create, access, and manage their user profile
Providers create and manage their delegates’ access
All users search, view, and download prenatal screening results
Delegates create and access their user profile once an invitation from their managing provider is received

* Interoperability Development Effort to Authenticate Licensees (IDEAL) is used by Medical Board of California to authenticate and support access to the CalGenetic Portal

Note: Delegates are all staff members, including office and medical assistants, that a licensed clinician (MD/DO) allows access to the CalGenetic Portal. Delegates generally do not have a professional license and therefore do not go through IDEAL verification on the CalGenetic Portal.

Outcome of Pregnancy

The Confidential Report of an Outcome of Pregnancy collects information on pregnancy and the outcome of pregnancy from healthcare providers who cared for a birthing parent with services related to prenatal screening. The California Code of Regulations (Title 17, Section 6527) require that this information be provided because it is essential to the analysis of the effectiveness of the policies and practices adopted by the California Prenatal Screening Program at the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP).

It is mandatory that healthcare professionals completing this report provide complete and accurate information. The records maintained by GDSP are confidential as defined in Civil Code 1798.3 and are exempt from access by any individual except licensed medical personnel designated by the subject. It will be used for public health surveillance, Prenatal Screening Program evaluation, and special studies as defined in Health and Safety Code 100330. It is permitted under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

GDSP has conducted the Confidential Report of an Outcome of Pregnancy survey for more than two decades. In December 2024, GDSP launched a secure online portal where the Confidential Report of an Outcome of Pregnancy can be completed and submitted online.

What can I do on the portal?

The portal is designed for healthcare providers to complete and submit the Confidential Report of an Outcome of Pregnancy online.

Who has access to the portal

Healthcare providers who cared for a birthing parent with services related to prenatal screening have access to the portal. First-time users are required to register with an email address.

What is MFA?

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires users to verify identity using multiple independent methods. Instead of just asking for a username and password, MFA implements additional credentials. You will need to have a phone to access the portal. The portal will send you a text or call you upon each login as a second level of security authentication to verify your identity. Your phone number is entered at the time of account creation. If you get a new phone but keep the same phone number, your MFA will still work seamlessly. If you get a new phone number, you will need to contact GDSP at GDSPAdmins@cdph.ca.gov for assistance. Turnaround time can be 2–5 days for MFA reset.

Why do I receive the Confidential Report of an Outcome of Pregnancy?

In general, the confidential reports are sent to the prenatal providers for all pregnancies with screen-positive results, for a subsample of 1% of all screen-negative results, and for pregnancies with selected prenatal screening results (such as cfDNA low fetal fraction) with a potentially increased risk for neural tube defects and/or chromosomal abnormalities.

When does GDSP send the confidential reports to healthcare providers?

The confidential reports are sent out approximately 60 days following the expected date of delivery.

Why do I receive a reminder request?

After the first email request with the subject line “Please Complete a Confidential Report on an Outcome of Pregnancy” has gone out, if no report is submitted on the portal, the reminder requests will be sent 30 days and 60 days after the initial request.

Where do I look for the information requested in the confidential report?

The requested information can be found in birthing parent’s medical records on the index pregnancy. Newborn’s medical records may also have the requested information if available.

Do I need to submit the report online if I do not have any information about the pregnancy and the outcome of the pregnancy?

Yes, please confirm this in the portal so that a ‘Second Request’ does not have to be sent to you. You will have a chance to enter another health provider’s information in the portal. The portal will then lead you to submission page without going through other questions.
