Drug Safety Program

The Drug Safety Programā€™s mission is to promote and improve the health and well-being of all California residents and to facilitate the growth and vitality of California drug, cosmetic, and other consumer product industries. This mission is accomplished by an integrated regulatory and science based program that utilizes education, investigation, and enforcement to assure that products are not adulterated, misbranded or falsely advertised.

The vision is to be recognized worldwide as a dynamic, scientifically based, accountable organization in partnership with all who seek the betterment of public health, by promoting the highest standards of safety, quality and technology for drugs, cosmetics, and related products.

 Counterfeit Medicine

Counterfeit (fake or falsified) medicinesā€‹ may be harmful to your health because while being passed off as authentic, may contain the wrong ingredients, contain too much, too little or no active ingredient at all or contain other harmful ingredients.ā€‹

 Medication Health Fraud

ā€‹ā€‹Medication health fraudā€‹ includes the marketing of medication products with unproven, false, or misleading claims about those products' ability to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent diseases or conditions. Use of medication products marketed with unproven claims or containing hidden drug ingredients could cause serious health problems.ā€‹
