General Preventive Medicine/Public Health Residency Program

Application Procedures

General Preventive Medicine/Public Health Residency applications are processed through Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) website.​ The application process for ERAS® 2024 opens the beginning of September.

Deadline for standard application forms is October 31, 2023.

Application forms must be received by October 31st for the following training year from July 1 to June 30; supplementary forms (official transcripts from graduate education and three letters for recommendation) must also be received by October 31st. Applications that do not meet these deadlines will not be considered for the current cycle.

Final acceptance into a two-year residency position is contingent upon acceptance into one of the California schools of public health with which CDPH has an affiliation. These include the University of California, Davis (UCD), University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Applicants who apply to the PMRP should submit their MPH application by each School’​​s Application Priority Due Date to ensure timely receipt of all required documentation and to avoid reduced opportunities for admission.​

Primary selection criteria are a demonstrated interest in and ability to practice in a public health agency in California.
