Mpox Data in California

Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) has been circulating in the United States and California since 2022. Ongoing transmission in California has been due to clade IIb. Individual mpox cases and test results are reported to local health jurisdictions for follow-up and monitoring—these data are compiled below and refreshed every other week. See National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) for mpox wastewater monitoring data, which are not published on this page.

At this time, there is no concern or evidence that clade I mpox is currently spreading between individuals in California or the United States. For up-to-date information about clade I mpox cases in the U.S., including travel-associated cases, see CDC Mpox Situation Summary.
