Update on Emergency Temporary Standards

The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board adopted revisions to the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards which became effective on June 17.

The ETS includes requirements for employers to protect workers from COVID-19 and applies to most non-healthcare workplaces in California.

Outbreak Reporting Site

Assembly Bill 685 requires CDPH to publicly report information on workplace outbreaks by industry. OHB’s data and investigations team leads this reporting effort. ​​​See Employer Questions about AB 685.

Krishna Surasi, MD, MPH, an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer positioned within the Occupational Health Branch and the Environmental Health Investigations Branch, published Effectiveness of Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Antigen Test for Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Infections in Outbreak among Horse Racetrack Workers, California, USA. Dr. Surasi investigated a workplace COVID-19 outbreak and found that positive BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests identified some infected workers for isolation four days faster than RT-PCR testing alone would have, but negative BinaxNOW results still need confirmatory testing
