Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2023

ā€‹Lead Week is a national annual campaign during the last full week of October to bring awareness to and prevent childhood lead exposure. This year, Lead Week takes place October 22ā€“28 and Californiaā€™s theme iā€‹s, ā€œProtect your family from all sources of lead air pollution, including aircraft and shooting ranges.ā€ Everyone is encouraged to geā€‹t involved with Lead Week by participating in events and sharing these resources about preventing childhood lead poisoning. Webinar Series

Monday, October 23: Time: 1-2 pm

The CDPH Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB) will provide an overview of statewide efforts around addressing the dangers of lead air pollution.

Tuesday, October 24: Time: 10-11 am

Earth Justice will present on the role of environmental and community groups in bringing change at the federal level, EPA's proposed endangerment finding for leaded aviation gas, and what it means for the future of leaded aviation gas.

Thursday, October 26: Time: 1-2 pm

San Diego Pediatricians for Clean Air will discuss policy change in reducing leaded aviation gas, how it supports community health, and the importance of advocacy work.

Santa Clara CLPPP and CLPPB will present on State and local efforts to educate communities about the impacts of leaded aviation gas and ways to protect families' health.ā€‹

Lead poisoning prevention messages will be posted on CDPH and local health jurisdictionsā€™ social media platforms during Lead Week. Check CDPHā€™s Facebook and Instagramā€‹ accounts throughout the week for information, tips, and resources for keeping your family lead-safe.
