Did you know that there are medications that treat COVID-19? Prescription COVID-19 medications treat COVID-19 to prevent serious illness. Early evidence suggests that COVID-19 medications may lower the risk of developing longā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ COVID symptoms. They may also help you test negative sooner.ā€‹

When? Most COVID-19 medications must be started within the first 5 days of symptoms to work, so act fast if you start to feel sick.ā€‹

Whoā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹? COVID-19 medications are recommended for people with factors that make them higher risk for serious COVID-19 illness, which includes most adults and some teens. ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹

Cost? There may be a cost for the medications, but they should remain free or low-cost for most patients through most insurances and/or patient assistance programs. ā€‹ā€‹

ā€‹How? As soon as you feel sick, act fast to test for COVID-19 and ask about a prescription for COVID-19 medications. See About COVID-19 Medications for more information on how to get a prescription or call the California Department of Public Health Call Center at 833-422-4255.
