Local Rabies Control Activities (LRCA)
The California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 2606.4(a)(4), requires that local officials responsible for dog or rabies control within a city or county shall make quarterly rabies control activities reports to the California Department of Public Health through the local health officer. This information is used to assist in evaluation and planning of local rabies control programs. Caution should be used when analyzing the LRCA report tables since local health jurisdiction data represent aggregated reports from multiple municipal agencies, some data is missing, the population demographics varies by jurisdiction, and the number of animals within a jurisdiction is unknown. The reported data does not include statistics from private shelters since these facilities are not required to report under the state regulations. The annual rabies declaration, letter to local rabies control officials, LRCA reporting form, and prior annual LRCA data summaries are provided below.
