Africanized Honeybees (AHB) are a strain of bees that were imported from Africa into South America in the 1950s and have since spread north into Central and North America. AHB resemble other honeybees but are more aggressive and prone to swarm. A swarm of AHB can inflict hundreds of stings within a few seconds if provoked. Serious allergic reaction and possibly death can result in adults, children, or domestic animals who are stung after disturbing an AHB colony.
