The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs (CLPPPs) carry out a number of activities including providing information and education to the general public, medical providers, and community-based organizations. They also provide direct public health nursing and environmental services to lead burdened children and work to increase the number of children being assessed and tested for lead exposure.
The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB) carries out, and oversees through local programs, a wide range of activities related to lead poisoning prevention including: outreach and education to families, community and healthcare providers; development of regulations for assessment and testing of children for lead exposure; laboratory quality assurance and reporting on blood lead tests; identification of lead burdened children; and providing of public health and environmental services to lead burdened children; follow-up to see that sources of lead exposure are reduced and removed. The CLPPB also carries out the Lead Related Construction Program (LRC). The LRC accredits training providers and certifies professionals in lead construction activities.
