About Us

The Office of Professional Development & Engagement (OPDE) promotes organizational excellence and empowerment by providing equitable access to resources and development opportunities for CDPH staff, partners, and stakeholders. 

Core Functional Areas

Our core functional areas include project management, language access services, wellness, mentoring, employee recognition, leadership development, and accreditation. We also coordinate internship, fellowship, and residency programs to support the future public health workforce. As a department, we recognize the value of our staff and that they are the backbone of our organization. Having an empowered, healthy staff with the knowledge and skills to serve the public efficiently and effectively is key.​
