How Do I Apply?
Easy as 1, 2, 3!
Step 1: Apply to the California Pathways into Public Health (Pathways) Internship Program by submitting your application through the University Enterprise Inc. (UEI) online job posting. Create a UEI account and apply for the "Student Assistant – California Pathways into Public Health Spring 2026 Internship (Hybrid)" position. Please make sure to include your resume when applying. A cover letter is not required and will not be reviewed if submitted. Please note that the default position location of Sacramento, CA, should be ignored. The available Local Health Department (LHD) Host Sites are listed within the job description.
Step 2: Following submission of the UEI job application, applicants will receive a supplemental application via email directly from the Pathways team. Please make sure the email used to apply is accurate and checked on a frequent basis. At this stage of the process, you will select your preferred Local Health Department (LHD) from those available. Completion of the supplemental application is required. If you apply between August 22 and September 4, you will receive the supplemental application on September 5 with a September 8 deadline to complete. If you apply between September 5 and September 22, you will receive the supplemental application on September 26 with a September 29 deadline to complete.
Step 3: As part of the supplemental application, you will be asked to respond to several short essay questions. Use this section to highlight your background and explain how your skills align with the objectives of the Pathways Internship Program. Make sure your answers reflect your enthusiasm for working in local health departments and your passion for Public Health. Be mindful of the specific requirements regarding sentence and word count.
Internship applications require both steps to be completed:
- Completion of the online job listing posted through UEI
- Completion of the supplemental application
- If applying between August 22 and September 4 by 12:00pm, supplemental survey will be sent September 5 and Due September 8.
- If applying between September 4 at 12:01pm and September 22 by11:59pm , supplemental survey will be sent September 26 and due September 29.
Due to the large volume of application, Pathways is unable to respond to the status inquiries or to provide feedback on individual applications. After submissions are reviewed, a select number of applicants will be invited to interview with the Pathways team.

Spring Semester
August/ September

| Interviews are conducted with qualified candidates virtually.

| Pathways will extend job offers to selected candidates. Offers include the reporting address for the assigned local county or city health department and a description of internship duties.
Assignments are non-negotiable.

December/January
| Interns complete necessary UEI hiring paperwork and local health department onboarding requirements, such as background checks.

January/February
| Interns attend virtual orientation with Pathways and begin work at their host sites.
|
May
| Internship ends.

March/April
