Vital Records Fees

Requests received without the appropriate fee will be returned to the sender. Make your check or money order payable to CDPH Vital Records. Checks and money orders must be drawn on a United States bank.

Vital record fees are specified in statute. If a record cannot be located, you will be issued a Certificate of No Public Record and the fee will be retained as a search fee as authorized by State law.

Effective January 1, 2026, the California Department of Public Health – Vital Records (CDPH-VR) will increase vital record fees for certified copies, pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 64 (Chapter 662, Statutes of 2025).

The still birth certified copy fee will remain $28. Out-of-state adoptions fee will remain $20. Amendment fee will remain at $26, which includes one certified copy of the newly amended record. If additional certified copies are needed, please see the table above

Please do not send cash by mail. CDPH-VR cannot be held responsible for fees paid that are lost, misdirected, or undelivered.

VS 24C – Affidavit to Amend a Marriage Record *The fee to change either spouses’ designation as bride, groom, or having neither box checked to reflect gender identity is $26, regardless of when the request is submitted.
