One Health

What is One Health?

One Health is a globally recognized approach that incorporates the interdependency of people, animals, and our shared environment into strategies that achieve optimal health outcomes and well-being for all.

How does the Center for Environmental Health use the One Health approach?

The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) supports the One Health approach by recognizing the importance of collaborating with local, state, and national partners to solve complex health challenges that impact animals, humans, and the environment in California. Examples of One Health challenges that CEH programs work on include food-borne illnesses, enforcement of retail pet food regulations, water quality, emergency preparedness, and marine biotoxin monitoring.
The CDPH One Health program, housed at CEH, works to address complex challenges that exist at the interface of animal, human, and environmental health through outreach and education, research, relationship building, technical assistance, advocacy, and collaboration with local, state, and national partners.
