April 8, 2026 — As part of ongoing efforts to protect patients and safeguard public health programs, approximately 80 surveyors and investigators from CDPH, DHCS, CDTFA, and partner agencies conducted compliance reviews at a Van Nuys location subject to “viral” videos regarding hospice care.

California Combats Persistently High Nicotine Vape Addiction Among Young Adults with New Statewide C​ampaign

April 1, 2026 — The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today launched “Not Your Lab Rat,” a bold statewide campaign designed to educate young adults about the dangers of modern nicotine products, prevent initiation, and motivate quitting among California’s highest-risk population for nicotine addiction.   ​

CDPH Warns of Serious Illness linked to ​Raw Ched​​dar Cheese Produced by RAW FARM, LLC​

March 6, 2026 —​ The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is urging the public to avoid contact with dead or distressed marine mammals and wild birds along the California coast after H5N1 bird flu, also known as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), was confirmed in weaned northern elephant seal pups at Año Nuevo State Park in San Mateo County.​

March 5, 2026 —​ The Calfornia Department of Public Health (CDPH) is urging Californians to get vaccinated against measles after local health departments in Placer and Sacramento counties have notified the state of multiple recent cases.

February 19, 2026 —​ The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that the number of reported sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in California decreased for the third consecutive year.

January 26, 2026 —​ The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), in coordination with its partners in the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA), endorses the 2026 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. This schedule differs from recent national changes issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). ​

​CDPH Warns Retailers and Public About the ​Dangers of Kratom-derived Products and 7-OH​​

January 16, 2026 —​ ​The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is collaborating with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) to remind consumers and retailers that products containing kratom or 7-hyrdroxymitragynine, commonly known as 7-OH, are associated with addiction, serious harm, overdose, and death.
Death Cap Mushrooms Linked to Three Deaths, Three Liver Transplants and 35 Hospitalizations

January 14, 2026 —​ The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is issuing an update to its December 5 health advisory​ as an outbreak of amatoxin poisoning continues across California. This outbreak is linked to the consumption of wild, foraged mushrooms and has caused severe liver damage in both children and adults, resulting in three adult deaths and three liver transplants to date. CDPH urges Californians not to pick or eat wild mushrooms.
