Test Methodology

TB complex identification may use high performance liquid chromatography to identify BCG vaccine strains, or a combination of growth characteristics and biochemicals to identify M. bovis.  Pyrazinamide susceptibility testing is performed using Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) broth.

Additional Information

Cultures of M. bovis are resistant to pyrazinamide (PZA).  Members of the TB complex which are resistant only to PZA are  M. bovis or possibly a mono-resistant M.tb.
