The meeting was called to order by Heather Fukushima at 8:35 a.m. The following members were present via telephone: 

1. Linda Remy, University of California (UC), San Francisco 

2. Emily Putnam-Hornstein, University of Southern California 

3. Deborah Karasek, UC Berkeley 

4. Tim Bruckner, UC Irvine 

5. Rebecca Baer, UC San Diego 


The following members were not present: 

1. Chris Krawczyk, Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD)

1) APPROVAL OF PRIOR MEETING MINUTES – MARCH 11, 2020

A MOTION was made by Linda Remy and SECONDED by Deborah Karasek to approve the minutes. Linda Remy, Deborah Karasek, Emily Putnam-Hornstein, Rebecca Baer and Tim Bruckner voted to approve the minutes as distributed.




2) CONSENT CALENDAR - ATTACHMENT 1 


The following OSHPD projects were reviewed:

The following California Cancer Registry (CCR) project was reviewed:

Principal Investigator:  Kelly Hirko, PhD, Michigan State University
Project Type:  Continuing
Data Requested:  1998-2014 CCR Variables containing Vital Records Data
Staff Issues Identified:  None

Discussion:  None.

A MOTION was made by Rebecca Baer and SECONDED by Linda Remy to approve the projects listed on the consent calendar. Rebecca Baer, Linda Remy, Deborah Karasek, 
Tim Bruckner and Emily Putnam-Hornstein voted to approve the consent calendar as distributed.



2) DISCUSSION ITEMS - NEW BUSINESS - ATTACHMENT 2 


The following projects were reviewed by the Health Information and Research Section and require VSAC review and recommendation: 


1. Project Title:  Assessing the Cross-Sector Impact of MAMA’s, an Initiative Integrating Health and Social Services for Low Income Pregnant Women in Los Angeles County
Principal Investigator:  William Nicholas, PhD, MPH, MA, Los Angeles County of Public Health
Project Type:  New
Data Requested:  2013-2019 Birth Data, 2013-2017 Birth Cohort Data
Staff Issues Identified:  None

Discussion:  None.

A MOTION was made by Linda Remy and SECONDED by Deborah Karasek to recommend approval. Linda Remy, Deborah Karasek, Rebecca Baer and Tim Bruckner voted to approve that the State Registrar approve the release of the data as described in the application. Emily Putnam-Hornstein abstained.

2. Project Title:  Community Violence and Disparities in Maternal and Infant Health:  Effect and Mechanisms
Principal Investigator:  Jennifer Ahern, PhD, MPH, University of California, Berkeley
Project Type:  New
Data Requested:  2005-2019 Birth Cohort Data, 2005-2021 Death Data, 2012-2015 Fetal Death Data 
Staff Issues Identified:  None
Discussion:  None.

A MOTION was made by Rebecca Baer and SECONDED by Tim Bruckner to recommend approval. Rebecca Baer, Tim Bruckner, Emily Putnam-Hornstein, 
Linda Remy and Deborah Karasek voted that the State Registrar approve the release of the data as described in the application.

A MOTION was made by Deborah Karasek and SECONDED by Emily Putnam-Hornstein to adjourn the meeting. Deborah Karasek, Linda Remy, Rebecca Baer, Emily Putnam-Hornstein and Tim Bruckner voted unanimously to recommend adjourning the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:44 a.m.
