New October – December 2021 Fruits and Vegetables Benefit Increase

What is the latest update to the WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

Starting October 2021, a new temporary Fruits and Vegetables Benefit increase is available through the end of December 2021.

Starting October 1, the new dollar amount eligible participants will receive are:

  • $24 per month for children ages 1-5
  • $43 per month for pregnant and postpartum individuals
  • $47 per month for fully and partially breastfeeding individuals

For example, a family with 1 breastfeeding parent and 3 eligible children would get $119 ($47+24+24+24) each month through December for fruits and vegetables.

How were the benefit levels for this temporary benefit increase decided?

The benefit levels by participant category (children, pregnant and postpartum, and breastfeeding) are based on independent scientific recommendations from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and adjusted for inflation.

How long will WIC families get the new temporary increase?

The Fruits and Vegetables Benefit increase will last for 3 months, from October 2021 through December 2021.

The monthly benefit is good for 30 days from the date they are issued. For example, a Fruits and Vegetables Benefit issued on December 27, 2021 can be used through January 26, 2022.

When will I see the new increase in my Fruits and Vegetables Benefit on my WIC food balance?

You should start seeing the new Fruits and Vegetables Benefit increase during the month of October.

If you don't see the increases for November and December yet, don't worry. Your benefit amount will be updated to reflect the increase.

Where can I use the Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

You can use your Fruits and Vegetables Benefit at WIC approved stores and with farmers that accept the WIC Card.

What can I buy with my Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

You can buy fresh, dried, canned, and frozen fruits and vegetables in any brand, type, or combination. Organic fruits and vegetables are included.
