Child Health Data Briefs

The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division is devoted to supporting the health and wellness of children and youth and their families.  Programs and initiatives within MCAH use data-driven strategies to support the health of these populations, utilizing an upstream, preventive and life-course focused approach.

MCAH is pleased to announce the release of the California Department of Public Health MCAH Children's Health Data Briefs Series, focused on the health status of California's children aged 1 to 10 years.  These briefs will be released on a rolling basis, each one focusing on a specific set of child health indicators. The three initial briefs will focus on indicators that provide an overview of the individual child's health and the external factors that influence it, such as physical and social environments and the family unit.  Future briefs will delve deeper into topics like mental health, children and youth with special healthcare needs, child flourishing and access to care.

These briefs may be used by those working to support child health across California to help inform programmatic decision making and future action.  By understanding the current status of child health, state and local leaders can better support children's health and wellness, leading to healthier communities.
