Perinatal Equity Initiative • 2019 – 2024 Results Where We Serve

Eleven (11) local health jurisdictions (LHJs) and their subcontractors implemented interventions in communities where most Black births occur, and where Black Infant Health Program services are also available. All LHJs implemented Community Advisory Boards (CAB) and Public Awareness Campaigns (PAC). In consultation with their CABs, LHJs selected at least two other interventions ranging from evidence-based, evidence-informed or innovative practices to implement in their communities, as required by legislation.¹ Through California State General Funds, a total of $7.2 million is awarded to the jurisdictions each fiscal year.

During the five-year reporting period, the number of LHJs implementing at least one intervention increased over time, and therefore, the number of interventions for which data became available increased from 2 to 10, with a slight decrease to 9 in the last fiscal year. Notes

Local health jurisdictions (LHJs) are government defined geographical areas, such as counties or cities, for which public health administrative functions and services are managed by public health departments. In this case, agencies refer to all the organizations within LHJs that are implementing MCAH program services as direct contractors of MCAH or subcontractors of the LHJs public health departments.
