Perinatal Equity Initiative • 2019 – 2024 Results Public Awareness Campaign
Background
Public Awareness Campaigns (PACs) to increase community awareness of Black maternal and infant health disparities are a required component of each local health jurisdiction (LHJ) PEI activities. Visit
CDPH PEI webpage to learn more about the PEI PACs.
LHJs used a variety of communication channels in their PACs, including social media, broadcast media, websites, text messaging, billboards, “out of home" ads, digital ads, and physical materials like brochures. LHJs conducted information gathering activities such as focus groups, interviews, or meetings with community partners to inform campaign design. Three LHJs formed one regional PAC to strengthen and align communication efforts.
Please note that “Is Anyone Better Off?" measures were not identified for this intervention.
Successes
The combined number of locally based communication channels that were used across the state grew over the years reaching a high of 50 channels statewide in fiscal year (FY) 2021-2022. Hundreds of community partners were engaged with each year (>300), resulting in hundreds of information gathering activities. Most “How Well Did We Do It?” measures grew during the reporting period, suggesting the PAC was moving in the right direction to meet its intended goal of increasing community awareness.
