Background
The Midwifery scholarship intervention focuses on increasing the number of Black midwives. It offers scholarships to students enrolled in midwifery training programs.
One local health jurisdiction (LHJ) selected this intervention for their community.
This intervention is not based on a specific model but centers on workforce development through scholarship support and outreach.
The primary “Is Anyone Better Off?" measure for this intervention is: Percent of Black students who applied to the midwifery program and received the scholarship award.
Successes
The midwifery website had thousands of visits (>3,000) every fiscal year during the period. Around one percent of visitors applied, with percent of applicants receiving the award ranging from 16.3% in fiscal year (FY) 2021–2022 to 22.2% of applicants in FY 2023–2024.
