California Home Visiting ProgramCHVP By the Numbers
The California Home Visiting Program (CHVP) uses federal Maternal, Infant & Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) funds and State General Funds (SGF) to support four evidence-based home visiting (EBHV) program models:
- Healthy Families America (HFA)
- Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP)
- Parents as Teachers (PAT)
- Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY)
These programs are offered in 57 local health jurisdictions (LHJs) across California.
CHVP home visiting services support pregnant people and new parents by improving maternal health, child development, and family wellbeing. Services are voluntary and provided in the family's home or another agreed upon place by a public health nurse or trained paraprofessional. Families typically receive services for two to five years. Visit frequency follows each program's requirements but can be adjusted to meet a family's needs. To learn more, visit the

This dashboard provides an annual summary of how many families participate in CHVP, their characteristics and the services they receive. Data can be viewed for CHVP overall and by funding source.
