California Department of Public Health, California Home Visiting Program (CHVP) data extracted from evidence-based home visiting model-specific data systems at the end of each reporting year.

Data Analysis

The CHVP data reported on this dashboard were analyzed by the Home Visiting and Systems Evaluation (HVSE) Section, Program Evaluation and Data Systems (PEDS) Branch, Maternal Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division.

The data includes the numbers of families and children served, stratified by selected characteristics. For the purposes of this dashboard, families are considered 'served' if they are enrolled for at least one day and have at least one completed home visit during the reporting period.

Annual estimates were summarized on a state fiscal year (FY) reporting period (July 1 – June 30). Data is currently available for the FY 2024-2025.

Category and Subcategory Definitions

Funding Source: CHVP administers the federal Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program grant, as well as the State General Funds (CHVP SGF) allocated to local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to deliver evidence-based home visiting (EBHV) services. Currently, CHVP allocates MIECHV funds to 21 LHJs and CHVP SGF to 57 LHJs to implement evidence-based home visiting program models throughout California.

Age: Age of birthing parent or caregiver was calculated at the end of the reporting period (i.e., June 30th) for participants who were still enrolled in CHVP. Age was calculated at the end of CHVP program enrollment for participants who exited the program during the reporting period.

Race/Ethnicity: Hispanic includes all persons of Hispanic origin of any race, including Other and Unknown race. Multi-Race includes those of non-Hispanic origin who reported more than one race. The remaining groups are of non-Hispanic origin who reported a single race: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, White, Multiracial, Other or Unknown.

Primary Language: Language spoken by participants at home most of the time reported as English, Spanish or Other. Other languages spoken by participant families include Arabic, Cantonese, Creole (Haitian), French, Hindi, Mandarin, Russian, Tagalog and Vietnamese.

Health Insurance: Medi-Cal health insurance coverage of participants. Other includes Private Insurance (paid for by participant or someone else, or by a job), Tri-Care, other types of insurance coverage, no insurance coverage, or unknown/did not report. Health insurance as reported at participant's most recent data timepoint before the end of the reporting period. A participant's most recent time point may be at time of enrollment.
