OCal Program for Cannabis Products
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is tasked with developing standards for cannabis products and manufacturers that are comparable to the National Organic Program and California state organics laws. This work is being conducted in partnership with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), and the comparable-to-organics program is called the "OCal" program.
OCal will be a statewide certification program that will establish and enforce comparable-to-organic standards for cannabis and cannabis products. The OCal program will ensure that cannabis and cannabis products using the term OCal or the OCal seal have produced using consistent, uniform standards that are comparable to the NOP. CDFA will establish OCal standards for cannabis cultivation and cannabis flower by January 1, 2021, and CDPH will establish OCal standards for manufacturers and cannabis products by July 1, 2021.
