2025–26 Program Accomplishments 

During the 2025-2026 school year the Office of School Health launched the much-anticipated Albuterol Standing Order, introduced the Recognize, Respond, Connect (RRC): Supporting the Behavioral Health of Our Students Training, provided ongoing support for a diverse portfolio of school health initiatives in areas including behavioral health, communicable disease mitigation, and school-based health care. The Office could not have achieved all these accomplishments (and more) without the support of our partners. The following is a summary of our efforts and accomplishments towards keeping schools safe, healthy, and supported.​

Summary of Major Accomplishments

• The Albuterol Standing Order became available September 16th, 2025. Schools are now able to apply for a standing order to access albuterol inhalers without the need for an individual physician's prescription.

• The Epinephrine Standing Order was updated to include nasal spray devices. Schools and childcare programs that are contracted with local education agencies are now able to apply for both auto-injectors and nasal spray epinephrine.

• Recognize, Respond, Connect (RRC): Supporting the Behavioral Health of our Students was launched in the Fall of 2025.

• The Office of School Health team received the CSNO Partner in Education Award for its collaborative leadership that strengthened statewide school health practices and supported the well-being of students and school nurses across California.

• During the 2025–26 school year, the communicable disease mitigation guidance was updated to maintain protections around immunization and other key communicable disease mitigation issues given recent changes in policy at the Federal level.

• The Office of School Health presented a keynote speech at the California School Nurses Organization (CSNO) annual conference in partnership with the California Department of Education (CDE). In addition to presentations at the School Based Health Alliance Conference, Breaking Barriers Symposium and the California Association of School Psychologists. ​
  

Albuterol Standing Order Launch

The initiation of the Albuterol Standing Order became available September 16th, 2025, schools are now able to apply to keep stock albuterol inhalers and single use disposable spacers on campus.

Epinephrine Standing Order Update

The California Education Code 49414 was updated to include epinephrine nasal spray devices as well as expanded access to childcare programs.  

Partner Outreach

The Office of School Health hosted 20 office hours webinars that consisted of resources that were specific and relevant to requests from health and education partners. We also partnered with the California Department of Education and California School Nurses Organization to disseminate updates. All the webinars combined brought over 6,000 attendees throughout the school year. Topics covered include:

The Office also distributed 52 weekly notes emails and answered over 1,000 technical assistance questions, assisting our schools and their communities to comply with requirements, deadlines, and maintaining overall school health and wellbeing.
