California's Cancer Burden

Cancer Incidence and Mortality

Table 1.  California Cancer Burden

Table 1 shows the 10 leading causes of cancer incidence and mortality for males, females, and both sexes combined.  Prostate, colorectal, and lung cancers are the most diagnosed cancers among males, and, though not in the same order, are also the top leading causes of cancer-related death among males. Similarly, breast, lung, and colorectal cancers are the most commonly diagnosed cancers and the top three leading causes of cancer-related death among females, again not in the same order. For both sexes combined, melanoma of the skin is the fifth most diagnosed cancer, and pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death.
