Marj Plumb, DrPH (c) (Council Chair)

Dr. Plumb is a non-profit consultant and trainer who specializes in public policy, community-based participatory research, and organizational and leadership development. She has served for over twenty-five years in senior management positions with a variety of public, private and non-profit organizations working on health, economic development, environmental justice, violence prevention, and social justice/civil rights. Ms. Plumb is vice-chair of the California Women’s Health Council, which advises the California Department of Health Services on women’s health issues and is the founding director of the Women’s Policy Institute, a 12 month program training women in public policy. She has a Master in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Francisco and is completing her Doctorate in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley.
Beatriz Solís, PhD, MPH (Vice Chair)
The Endowment, Los Angeles
Ms. Solís joined the Endowment in 2007 as a Regional Senior Program Officer for the Los Angeles area where she oversees and provides direction for the administrative and grant-making activities of the foundation's Los Angeles based program officers working the four surrounding counties. In addition, Ms. Solís serves as a member of the foundation's statewide Community Health and Elimination of Health Disparities Program Team. Previous to working with the Endowment, she was Director of Cultural and Linguistic Services, L.A. Care Health Plan and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Public Health. She was responsible for developing one of the first-ever departments dedicated to cultural and linguistic access issues in a managed care setting. Ms. Solís joined L.A. Care as the director in 2001, following nearly 10 years with UCLA. During her time with UCLA, she acted as the Project Manager of the Center for Health Policy Research, where she was responsible for several original research projects in women’s health, including the examination of health care systems issues as they relate to low-income and diverse communities. For the past two years, she has been teaching at California State University, Northridge in the Chicano/Central American Studies Department on the role of Latin American women in society, as well as contemporary issues impacting Latinos in the U.S.
Golnaz Agahi, LCSW, MPH
Orange County Department of Education, Costa Mesa
Ms. Agahi works as the Crisis Response Network Coordinator with the Orange County Department of Education, coordinating and collaborating with schools in promoting safe schools and crisis response plans. With over 10 years of experience working with women and children, Ms. Agahi works both as a clinical social worker providing mental health services and as a program coordinator in developing and implementing programs that foster the well-being of women and children. She previously worked as a supervisor with the County of Orange, Health Care Agency in the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Program and as a LCSW with Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. Her past work and research includes developing and evaluating alcohol and drug prevention programs, coordinating health and mental health services for high risk and homeless youth and case management services for parenting teens and women in recovery. Ms. Agahi received her dual masters in Public Health and Social Work from San Diego State University, with an emphasis in Maternal and Child Health.
Crystal Crawford, JD
California Black Women's Health Project, Inglewood
Ms. Crawford is the Chief Executive Officer and Attorney at the California Black Women’s Health Project in Los Angeles, California. This organization is the only statewide non-profit organization solely dedicated to improving the health of California’s black women and girls through education, policy, outreach and advocacy. Ms. Crawford coordinates and facilitates town hall meetings, policy meetings and community education programs and participates in various statewide committees and meetings addressing the health disparities impacting women of color. She also educates and informs policymakers about black women’s health and related policy issues and solutions. Ms. Crawford obtained her law degree from the New York University School of Law.
Diana Ramos, MD, MPH
LA County Department of Health & Human Services, Los Angeles
Dr. Ramos is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and the Medical Director for family planning and maternal health for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. She oversees the Title X clinics, CPSP, Perinatal HIV screening, FIMR-BIH, and some Family Pact issues. She knows first hand about the health issues and psychosocial dilemmas that confront women. As a Spanish speaking physician serving Hispanic communities, she has vast experience in dealing with women who have had difficulty in accessing and obtaining healthcare. Her passion to learn more and impact ethnic and health disparities led her to pursue her Masters in Public Health. She is the Chair of the American Medical Association (AMA). She has a B.A. in Communication, Arts and Science and graduated with honors as Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine.
Alina Salganicoff, PhD
Kaiser Family Foundation, Oakland
Alina Salganicoff is Vice President and Director of Women’s Health Policy for the Kaiser Family Foundation. Her work focuses on health policy issues of importance to women, with an emphasis on health coverage and access to care for underserved women. She also directs the Foundation’s Kaiser EDU.org project, an online educational resource on health policy. Before directing the Foundation’s work in women’s health policy, Dr. Salganicoff was an Associate Director of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured. She has written numerous book chapters, journal articles, and reports on health care access and financing for low-income women and children. She has also served as a member of many different national, state and Federal advisory committees on women's health. Before working at the Foundation, she was a Research Associate at Johns Hopkins University, on the health program staff of the Pew Charitable Trusts, and a trainer and counselor for CHOICE, a Philadelphia-based, reproductive health advocacy organization. Her undergraduate degree is from Pennsylvania State University and her Ph.D. is in Health Policy from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
