TB complex identification may use high performance liquid chromatography to identify BCG vaccine strains, or a combination of growth characteristics and spacer oligonucleotide typing (spoligotyping) to identify M. bovis. Pyrazinamide susceptibility testing is performed using Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) broth.
Interferences & Limitations
Cultures of M. bovis are resistant to pyrazinamide (PZA). Members of the TB complex which are resistant only to PZA are very likely to be M. bovis.
