Welcome to the State of California

Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program (IDE)

About IDE

The Infectious Disease Epidemiology (IDE) Program focuses on enhancing the detection and response to infectious disease incidents and threats in the border region.  We work collaboratively with state, local, and federal partners focusing on surveillance and monitoring of infectious diseases, developing routine and emergency binational communication protocols, facilitating cross-border exchange of information, investigating binational infectious disease cases and outbreaks, and facilitating communications between public health officials in California and Baja California on infectious disease matters of binational interest.

IDE also manages and coordinates the California Border Infectious Disease Program (CA-BIDS) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  CA-BIDS, is a collaboration between CDPH, CDC, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, and the Imperial County Public Health Department.  CA-BIDS activities focus on enhancing surveillance, laboratory testing, and reporting of urgent and routine infectious diseases in the border region.
