CDPH/OA (OA) will continue to take part in discussions regarding this study and will provide updates via their website and the OA Advisory Network.

SB 1159 (Vasconcellos, Chapter 608, Statutes of 2004) established the Disease Prevention Demonstration Project, which provides for pharmacy sale of sterile syringes without a prescription in counties and cities which authorize participation. CDPH/OA is required by the legislation to submit a report which addresses key outcomes of the legislation to the Governor and Legislature. This report provides a comprehensive description of the implementation and outcomes of this five year pilot program.

This letter provides information about some of the changes that have occurred at OA with respect to HIV testing and prevention due to the elimination of State General Funds for prevention and testing activities for the FY 2009-10 contract period.

The White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) is conducting local community discussions to offer the public a chance to provide input as the White House works to fulfill President Obama’s pledge to develop a National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS). The President has articulated three goals for the NHAS: reducing HIV incidence, increasing access to care and optimizing health outcomes, and reducing HIV-related health disparities.

A series of national HIV/AIDS community discussions, hosted by the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP), will offer the public a chance to provide input as the White House works to fulfill the President's pledge to develop a National HIV/AIDS Stragegy (NHAS). The first event, the Atlanta HIV/AIDS Community Discussion, took place on August 25th at the 2009 National HIV Prevention Conference. Other cities in which community discussions will be held include, San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles, CA. Specific dates for these community discussions will be announced later. This campaign aims to reduce HIV incidence in the United States.
