Evaluation Resources
School Programs
Evaluation of school-based tobacco-use prevention education programs is conducted every two years based on the CSTS, a classroom-based survey of public and private school students in grades 6 through 12 as well as other school-specific information. Approximately 20,000 students from middle schools and high schools are surveyed.
Local Programs
Local Program evaluation is an integral component of projects funded by the state program. At least 10% of each local project's budget is required to be used for this purpose. The state program ensures local program evaluation quality by providing guidance, training, and technical assistance to program evaluators.
Media Campaign
Statewide media campaign evaluation is based on surveillance data and a media tracking study for each campaign.
Industry Activity
Tobacco control evaluation also monitors the tobacco industry's marketing practices and influence on the social, economic, and health environment of California.
