Office of Health Equity Advisory Committee (OHE-AC)
The Office of Health Equity (OHE) is mandated in Health and Safety Code Section 131019.5 to provide a key leadership role to reduce health and mental health disparities in vulnerable communities. A priority of this groundbreaking office is to build cross-sectoral partnerships. The work of the OHE will be guided through their advisory committee and stakeholder meetings. The office will consult with community-based organizations and local governmental agencies to ensure that community perspectives and input are included in policies, strategic plans, recommendations, and implementation activities.
The Office of Health Equity Advisory Committee (OHE-AC) will be integral in advancing the goals of the office and will advise in the development and implementation of the OHE Strategic Plan. The OHE-AC is comprised of representatives from applicable state agencies and departments, local health departments, community-based organizations, and service providers working to advance health and mental health equity for vulnerable communities. The OHE-AC consists of a broad range of experts, advocates, clinicians, and consumers who understand the important issues of health and mental health disparities related to unserved and underrepresented communities. The OHE-AC will work with the Health in All Policies (HiAP) Task Force, and stakeholders, to provide a forum to identify and address the complexities of health and mental health inequities and to identify interrelated and multisectoral strategies. Additionally, the OHE Advisory Committee will consult regularly with the Office of Health Equity for input and updates on the policy recommendations, strategic plans, and status of cross-sectoral work.
As mandated by Health and Safety Code Section 131019.5(f), the Office of Health Equity Advisory Committee will meet, at a minimum, on a quarterly basis.
